Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how Evoling Quiz (“Evoling”, “we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use the Evoling Quiz mobile application and related services (the “Service”). By accessing or using the Service, you understand the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

1. Information We Collect

We may collect the following categories of information:

• Account information: account identifiers such as username, and credentials (stored securely as hashed passwords).
• Optional contact information: if you choose to provide an email address (for account recovery, institutional eligibility, or support).
• Learning and usage data: quiz progress, answers, scores, performance metrics, rankings, class membership, and in-app activity.
• Speech and audio input (when you use speech features): audio or speech input you submit for transcription.
• Technical data: log data such as IP address, timestamps, device and app information, error logs, and security-related records.
• Purchase and subscription status: subscription status and entitlement signals (e.g., whether a subscription is active). Payment details are processed by the relevant app store, not by us.

2. Guest Mode

The Service may offer a Guest mode with limited features. In Guest mode, some features may be unavailable, and certain data (such as progress) may be stored locally on your device or may be limited.

3. How We Use Information

We use information to:

• Provide, operate, and maintain the Service (including account access, gameplay, progression, and rankings)
• Improve learning experience, quality, and performance of the Service
• Enable speech-to-text features and process audio submissions for transcription
• Prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents; debug and monitor reliability
• Manage subscriptions, entitlements, and access levels (including institutional access programs)
• Respond to support requests and communicate important service updates

3A. Legal Basis for Processing (Where Applicable)

Where required by applicable data protection laws (including the GDPR), we process personal data based on one or more of the following legal grounds: (i) performance of a contract (to provide the Service), (ii) legitimate interests (such as security, fraud prevention, and service improvement), and (iii) user consent (for specific features such as speech processing, where required).

4. Speech-to-Text Processing (Deepgram)

If you use speech-related features, your audio input may be transmitted to our speech-to-text provider (currently Deepgram) for transcription. We use the transcription to provide the feature within the Service. We do not sell your personal data. We process audio and related data only as necessary to provide the feature and maintain the Service.

5. Subscriptions and Payments

If you purchase a subscription or an in-app product, the transaction is handled by the relevant store (Apple App Store, Google Play Store, and other supported device app stores such as Samsung Store or Xiaomi store where applicable). We do not receive your full payment card information. We may receive signals such as subscription status and entitlement information needed to unlock paid features.

6. Institutional Access (Boğaziçi University Student Program)

We may offer free or discounted access to students affiliated with certain educational institutions. For Boğaziçi University student access, eligibility may be verified using a verified institutional student email address under allowed domains such as @std.bogazici.edu.tr and/or @stdu.bogazici.edu.tr. Institutional access may depend on the continued availability of the institutional email account. Institutional access is provided at our discretion and may be limited or withdrawn to prevent abuse or to comply with policy requirements.

7. Sharing and Disclosure

We may share information in the following cases:

• Service providers: hosting, infrastructure, and speech-to-text providers that process data on our behalf to operate the Service
• Legal and safety reasons: to comply with applicable law, enforce our terms, or protect the rights, safety, and security of users and the Service
• Business operations: in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, where permitted by law

7A. Data Hosting and International Transfers

Data is hosted and processed within the European Union. Where third-party service providers are used, appropriate safeguards are applied to ensure compliance with applicable data protection laws. If data is transferred outside the European Economic Area, we implement appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses or equivalent protections as required by law.

8. Data Retention

We retain personal data only as long as necessary to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Log data (such as IP address and security logs) may be retained for a limited time for security, fraud prevention, and operational purposes.

9. Account Deletion

You can request deletion of your account directly within the app via the Settings section (where available). When you delete your account, we will take reasonable steps to delete or anonymize personal data associated with the account, subject to legal obligations and legitimate security needs (for example, limited retention of certain logs).

10. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or object to certain processing of your personal data. You can also directly delete your account within the app. For requests or questions, contact us at contact@evoling.app.

11. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect information. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. Children

The Service is not intended for children under 13 (or the minimum legal age in your country). If you believe a child has provided personal data, please contact us.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the Service after changes means you acknowledge the updated Privacy Policy.
